Montenegro - 2007
Our first evening in montenegro, we take a stroll 2 beaches south through the forest and arrive at a huge, deserted beach,.The headland in the distance catches the evening sun.
sunset looking back towards the islands off Petrovac
Sunset looking back towards the islands off Petrovac
Sunset looking back towards the islands off Petrovac messing around with lens flair
Sunset looking back towards the islands off Petrovac, getting better
Could be almost tropical
The whole bay, 2nd beach south of Petrovac
almost gone
camera shy?
beach life, on Lucice beach
getting into the beach vibe
first dip and went to find the underwater cave discovered last year.
view from inside the airpocket looking back to the world outside, the strangest feeling, having the beach cut off by the sump, all quiet, just the blue light filtering through.
looking back out the cave mouth
trying to get a panorama of a small arch while being rocked by the waves
the same fantastic rock formationsextend below water creating amazing sculptires.
some red sea anenomes, these seem to congregate whereever there's permanent shade
kind of camoflage fish, with cool eyebrows!
flipper action.
lunch at pobably the best tuna pizza resturant in montenegro
getting out of the sun for a break from all that relaxing
lucice beach! idyllic, interesting seeing it compared to 2 years ago. few more restaurants and more of the beach taken over by sunbeads and parasols but still the best beach around.
you lookin' at my lilo?
mmm, ice cream, on Petrovac seafront. the other one is Jule's honest.
eyeing up the islands, trying to work out if i can swim there without a close encounter of the jetski kind
the islands off petrovac, they've finished renovating the church.
view south towards petrovac bay from the cliff walkway
view south towards petrovac bay from the cliff walkway
sea of the purest blue, went snorkeling along this cliff later and the bottom must have been 20m down and still visable.
the construction site at the end of the tunnel, they have created a huge area of reclaimed land and were busy moulding sea defences and craning them into posiion.
for the first time the tunnel is open so we brave the dark with our cycle lights. some of the bits were very dark, couldn't see our hands in front of our faces, took some persuading to get jules to go in :)
the old communist hotel, they appeared to be tearing it down but it was hard to tell, perhaps it was being renovated. wonder what it will look like when its finished. the quality of the hotels seems to be ramping up each one more luxurious than the last.
rebar
picturesque crane grab
like a giant fairground machine, except all you can win is rocks.
i was sure there was an arty angle somewhere amongst the huge sea defence moulds
sunset
from the ponta bar, best spot for cheesy music, cold beer and spectacular sunsets.
demiset
arrgh!!! a cloud. we take this opertunity to visite Kotor, looking south to sveti stefan, dramatic sunbeams on the rough waters.
kotor main square
someone has the crazy idea of climbing the path to the top of the mountain as the weather is a bit cooler.
world heritage site with authentic washing
mmm, that feels good. the locals keep a weary eye on the tourists below
half way up, the view over Kotor nestled in the valley
some of the roofs were stil awaiting their turn for renovation
near the top
great old path, zig zaging up the near vertical mountain.
flying the flag for monte!
we arrive at the top and after we recover from our crushing disappointment that there isn't a cafe we console ourselves with the view
took some persuading to get jules across this one, the metal groned and sagged in such a realistic way you could almost believe it was really about to fall down rather than just being built to scare tourists
on the way down the sun came out and we began to melt
one billion, nine hundred and sixty three thoushand... blar blar steps to go.
we made it! yes that's authentic sweat not ust put on for the cameras
man conquers mountain!
not more steps!
back in the cool shade of Kotors winding medieval streets.
could pass for art in Hoxton
us enjoying our meal voucher in Pod Lozam resturant, thanks Rosin, Denis and family. we struggled to spend all €100 and worked out we could get three meals, picking the most expensive items on the menu and still have change left over.
fish
rocks
buoy rope

i manage to pershade jules to pedalo out to the island for a look round.
church, island
panorama looking back to petrovac from the islands, somewhere there is our flat
a well deserved beer after all that daring sea exploration
snorkeling round the end of the harbour. watching the fish clean the bait off the fishermens hooks
cliff
small bay on the far side of the harbour
looking up at the fort
discovered some shells sitting on the seabed below the fort, about 40cm long. despite the urge to collect a souvenir for the flat, a little voice kept telling me i shouldnt touch unexploded bombs...
sea anenome
buoy from below
anchor
sun glint
fishing
working up room for more fresh fish, we climb the hill above ponta and take in the views
sun, sea, sky
the apartment block
the last photon from the setting sun
waves
same waves but with a slower shutter
beautiful colours
bug found on balcony, harmless, (probably)
man in perfect harmony with his environment.
the view jaws has just before the main course.
mermaid
after much persuading we get jules in snorkeling
being bugged by the paperatzzi
jules on her third book in three days
petrovac by night
the fort at night
point the camera into the dark, open the shutter and what do you get.
fish
long swim along the cliff north of the fort.
looking up at the formidable cliffs, too deep to see the bottom here.
standing on my head looking back towards the surface
cool, underwater canyon. only beaten by the formation around the island but unfortunately didn't have the camera when i swam out there.
